The Yasaka Shrine's central dance stage (Maidono), is famous for hundreds of white paper lanterns that are lit every evening, creating a magical, scenic atmosphere. These lanterns are donated by local Gion businesses to honor the shrine and are adorned with the names of the donors. 

I only managed to take photos during the daytime. Hopefully one day I can revisit Kyoto to take some night photos when the lanterns are lit.
