Sounkyo Onsen in winter is really a frozen wonderland within Daisetsuzan National Park. When I was there in early December, it was low season. Literally, besides enjoying the outdoor Onsen baths with snow next to me and cold wind blowing on my face at the hotel resort, everywhere else was covered with snow, strong wind and minus 10 degrees temperature. Glad to have both indoor and outdoor onsen at hotel to keep me warm.
